It's The Ultimate Diet Scale! If you're a real health nut, you'll realize the value in this nutritional scale. Not only can you measure the weight of your foods, but you can also see the nutritional values for them! Salter programmed this scale with information for over 900 foods and ingredients, as well as, built in memory for keeping track of your diet and nutritional intake.
It Provides Seven Nutritional Values
When ya put a piece of food on this scale, you're not only measuring its weight, but also the nutritional values within it. This diet scale will determine the following nutrition values within your foods:
Calories, Protein, Carbohydrates, Fiber, Sodium, Fat, and Cholesterol.
Over 900 Foods And Ingredients Already Onboard Salter programmed the values of over 900 different foods and ingredients into this scale. These values are as established by the USDA National Nutrition Database.
Aquatronic Feature Lots of kitchen scales only let ya weigh dry ingredients, but not this one. The Salter 1406 digital food scale can measure both wet and dry ingredients...It's the ultimate recipe scale!
Touch Key Operation You won't find any buttons on the digital food scale. The 1406 uses technology that lets you simply place your finger on the key you want to operate. You won't have to worry about water damage, dust or dirt getting stuck under the keys, or buttons breaking.
Glass Weighing Platform This digital food scale has a, tempered glass, weighing platform for measuring the weights of food portions and ingredients. Some of the great things about glass platforms are their odor and stain resistance, along with ease of cleaning.
Tare Feature The tare button on the front of this digital diet scale can be pressed to "zero out" the weight on the scale. You can then add more weight, and the display will only show the weight of the items you're adding. This Add & Weigh feature sure is useful when ya want to use a bowl or tray to weigh your things, or if ya want to get separate weights of multiple items.
Energy Saving Auto-Off If ya have ever had the batteries in something run out because you forgot to turn it off, you'll realize what a blessing this feature is. The Salter 1406 will automatically turn off after a few moments of inactivity, saving battery power and money.
It Remembers The Last Unit Ya Used If ya like to weigh your food in ounces, it can be a real pain if your scale always turns on ready to weigh in grams. It's a good thing the 1406 turns on displaying the unit of measurement you were using when ya turned it off.
10 YEAR MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY! Salter provides a ten year warranty on every scale they make. So, if ya have a problem with your scale, just send it to the Salter warranty center. They'll fix it or replace it, and send it right back.
My Salter 1450 finally bit the dust (over 10 years old). Like the previous reviewer I was hoping to get a replacement. The 1406 is a nice size, light weight, easy to use and seems accurate. Maybe there is not a need for a cover, but I wish it had one. Accidents do happen. In spite of it's short comings (my bias) I would recommend the 1406. It does a good job. If it lasts as long as my previous scale I won't complain.Reviewed by: Beverly Benson from Wichita Kansas on (4/20/2014)
This review is critical of the Salter 1406 SVEF Nutritional Scale, and not of the dealer, Will Knott Scales. I got my first Salter Nutritional Scale about ten years ago, and I loved it. It was accurate, portable, fit into my book bag and could be read easily in any lighting. Eventually it failed, and was replaced under warranty without difficulty. At the time of replacement, the former model was no longer available, and so I received the model 1406 SVEF in its place. This new design has multiple design flaws, as I see them. Most prominently, the read-out is positioned flush within the weighing surface. Since the scale is only 8 inches square, the user is effectively precluded from viewing said read-out when weighing food on an opaque dinner plate. Secondly, both low-light and high-glare environments are problematic, as the display is unilluminated. I considered whether this might simply be due to a defective lamp; however, I have not found in any of my research on the Web any mention of this product coming equipped with a light. Salter's warranty service is commendable. I just wish that they had designed the replacement model 1406 SVEF with some forethought, as its predecessor was clearly the superior product. I would love to have my old scale back and working again.Reviewed by: C. Stafford from Merced, CA on (3/31/2014)
