Food scales are great. They're great because they help people lose weight, they help diabetics stay in control, they help save grocery money, they help speed up cooking and cleaning, and they can help with other tasks like mailing packages and weighing small animals. Wow. The best part is you can pick from a lot of really good models and spend less than 50 bucks to get it to your door. Hopefully I've intrigued you to the point that you want to learn more about these wonderfully versatile scales. If so, read below.

The My Weigh Triton T2 XL

Weighing on the go doesn't have to be a giant pain in the butt. The My Weigh Triton T2 XL has a 1000 gram capacity, precise tenth gram readability, and is its own case. It's not much bigger than a pocket book and is less than an inch thick, so travel shouldn't be an issue; The large platform easily accommodates a dish for easy cleanup. This scale is also great for small kitchens and campers since it can fit pretty much anywhere.

The Salter 021

If ya want compact design without the need for batteries or a power adapter the Salter 021 is for you. It's not as precise as digital scales, but you'll never need to search for batteries or a wall outlet to power it, and it's tiny. It only takes up 4.75 x 3.5 x 2.75 inches when it's not being used!

The black and silver My Weigh KD7000

Looking for something with more capacity? Maybe you need something that can be plugged into the wall, so ya don't have to use batteries. Let's take a look at the My Weigh KD7000. This digital kitchen scale can handle over 15 pounds of ingredients with a 1 gram precision. This is the scale I use to separate bulk food for freezing, to make our bread and dog food, to prepare my breakfasts for the week, to make soap, and to weigh the occasional packages I send to friends and family. It's a real workhorse, too. I've been using it for over three years and it hasn't crapped out yet or lost its accuracy. The KD7000 comes in black and silver, and it doesn't take up too much room; I keep mine on a shelf in the kitchen. If ya need a really versatile, really dependable and really good digital scale the KD7000 is for you.

If ya need something a little smaller, but still like the wall plug option and the capacity of the KD7000, try out the My Weigh 7001DX. This digital scale has an overall size of 8.1 inches long, 6.1 inches wide and 1.3 inches thick. It also comes with a plastic bowl, envelope and shipping tube holders.

The Ohaus Valor 2000W and Valor 4000W

Don't worry, I didn't forget about scales for professional kitchens. Ohaus recently released the Valor 2000W and I gotta say, it's a pretty impressive little scale, especially for the price. There are four stainless steel Valor 2000W models to choose from each with a knife proof keypad, waterproof housing, rechargeable battery, checkweighing with LED indicators and, of course, they're NSF approved. That's not all for the Ohaus Valor family. The Valor 4000W series offers all the great features of the 2000W series, but with hands free tare and NTEP approval.

The Detecto baker scales series

For the bakers out there, you really can't go wrong with Detecto's baker scales. They're wonderful quality, available with and without scoops, come in baked enamel or stainless steel, and they're USA made at the Detecto warehouse in Missouri.
