Almost perfect

My own particular use for this scale is weighing coffee beans for espresso, usually 17 grams. This scale is almost perfect. It's small, so it doesn't take up too much precious counter spac. It's reasonably priced and plenty accurate enough for my needs; I can measure to the point where the last coffee bean makes a measurable difference. It's important to keep as many variables as possible constant when making espresso and the amount of coffee used is one of them. My old scale purported to measure to .1 gram, but I could drop several coffee beans on the scale before it gave a different readout. I like that the cover on this scale can be removed if I choose. The only thing that bugs me is that the feet under the scale are inset more than the on/off button which is located at the outside right edge of the top. As a result, when you push that button to turn the scale on, the scale tips down on the right and lifts up on the left -- it annoys me every time. But this scale has so many positive attributes that I am going to buy a second one for another location.

As Good as the old JS-50XV, except no programmable Auto Off

I bought this as a backup for my JS-50XV. After receiving it from Old WillKnott"s, I fired it up for some side by side comparisons between the JS-50XV and the JSR-50. At first, there was about a .4 to .6 grain difference using various small objects. However I used the 50 gram weight I had received with my old JS-50XV and done a calibration on both the JS-50XV and the JSR-50. After the calibrations, both scales were spot on, right down to .1 of a grain as advertised. The JSR-50 is as accurate as the old JS-50XV, and it requires only 2 AAA batteries, whereas the JS-50XV required 3 AAA batteries. The new JSR-50 does NOT include a 50 gram calibration weight like the JS-50XV did. Also on the JSR-50, you cannot turn the Auto Off feature on and off like you could on the JS-50XV. So in a nutshell, the JSR-50 is as good of a scale as the old JS-50XV, and it runs on one less battery. Just does not come with calibration weight or programmable Auto Off.
